Changes for the New Year

The Town of Richmond is starting off 2024 with a lot of changes.

In December, Richmond’s Town Solicitor withdrew her request for reappointment. I thank her for her many years of service to our town and wish her well on her future endeavors. We will be looking at applications for a new solicitor soon.

Additionally, four of six our Economic Development Commission members resigned, each for their own reasons, there’s a common theme surrounding the council’s decision not to hire an Economic Development Director and public criticism. I want to thank them for their service to the town and for recognizing my efforts and dedication in their 11/10/23 letter to council. I’d also like to thank the 2 members, Dave and Pete, who will continue on the board  despite these challenges.  I’d also like to thank our dedicated volunteers on our other Boards and Commissions.  I look forward to continuing to work with you all in 2024!

Changes to state law in 2023 resulted in many amendments to the town’s ordinances. Over the past few months, the Planning Board worked with the town solicitor to implement these changes and we are scheduling a joint workshop between the TC and PB to discuss the same. Tentatively scheduled for 1/16/2023.

The Chariho School Department will be holding “Necessity for School Construction (NSC)” meetings  on 1/8/24, 1/31/24, and 2/12/24 in the Chariho Regional High School Library. They will also have the Stage II application progress updates as a recurring item on all upcoming School Committee agendas, along with community and parent meetings over the next few months. They will provide opportunities for input, feedback, and questions during each meeting.  More information including overviews of the conditions of the schools can be found here.

Public meetings are the best place to find accurate information and ask questions. There’s ample opportunity in the coming months for questions regarding all these items and more!  Life is busy and if you can’t make it, email your elected officials with questions, concerns or comments.
