Safety & Tax Bill

Washington County Fair

I’m excited for the upcoming Fair! Many residents had concerns with safety surrounding the fair. Last year’s road closure was a one off issue caused by a rainy day and a busier day after. However, they have made changes this year to improve. They worked in collaboration with our police, fire and town staff. There will be notices not to park on 112 will be included in advertising. Additionally, they eliminated a mid-day concert on Saturday to encourage turnover.

Speed Limits and Crosswalks

Council recently voted to reduce the speed limit on Fawn Drive from 25 mph to 15 mph. Also, during public forum, a resident brought their concerns regarding the need for a crosswalk in by the Gardiner Road Mobile Home Park. He explained how many residents cross from one side to the other for exercise or to take out the trash. The police is going to research the same and see if this is a viable option.

Some concerns can be addressed over time. However, Safety or noise complaints to be addressed immediately should be reported to the Richmond Police at 402-539-8289

Tax Bill

My family received our tax bill over the weekend. You may have too or it’s on its way. Richmond saw a tax rate decrease by $.09 to $14.67 per $1,000. Although spending has increased, the Municipal staff and the school department worked to keep increases below the inflation rate. Further, we have additional tax revenue from new residential homes resulting in a decreased mil rate. Sustainable growth in the Wyoming area will help alleviate the tax burden further but this takes time. Council has been working towards this by increasing use codes available, offering small business support through a grant funded by ARPA and other initiatives.
